Dr. Venkatasubramanian is a Professor of Psychiatry & Consultant Psychiatrist at Schizophrenia Clinic & The Metabolic Clinic in Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore.

He co-ordinates the InSTAR Program for Schizophrenia at NIMHANS (

His areas of research interest include: Clinical Neurobiology, Immunological & Metabolic Abnormalities in Schizophrenia, Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in Psychiatry, Biology of Consciousness, Neuroimaging in Psychiatry, Evolutionary Neuroscience.

He has more than 200 publications in National & International Journals. He heads the Translational Psychiatry Laboratory at the Neurobiology Research Centre, NIMHANS (

He has been honoured with several awards like DST SwarnaJayanti Fellowship 2016, Dr. Vidyasagar Award by the ICMR, Government of India in 2013, Wellcome Trust / DBT India Alliance Senior Fellowship in 2011, Young Psychiatrist Award by the Indian Psychiatric Society in 2009, Platinum Jubilee Young Scientist Award 2008 by the National Academy of Sciences, India in 2008 and many more.
