Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: A Patient Centered Treatment Approach

5-FU has been used for a long time in the treatment of various tumours, especially in treatment of colorectal cancer. This lecture focuses on the advantages of oral 5-FU as most patients prefer to make treatment pills at home. Medical studies have shown a clear preference for oral 5-FU in about 90 percent of the patients. Oral drugs reduce the psychological impact of receiving treatment in the hospital. The number of hospital visits are also reduced, while visits to health care professionals reduces the number of daily activity hours lost to manage these patients, which leads to overall cost savings for both patients and professionals.
