Stress could cause allergies in patients taking COVID-19 vaccines: US study
Contrary to a general belief that polyethylene glycol (PEG), an ingredient in Covid vaccines, may create allergies in people taking the jab, a recent study suggested that anxiety from needles and fear of Covid-19 could also trigger allergies in people receiving the injection. A team of allergy researchers at Northwell Health, New York’s largest healthcare provider, has found that stress might be one of the key factors causing the rare allergic reactions after getting vaccinated with Covid-19 shots. The team, which was investigating the side-effects of administering Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, found that these psychological allergic reactions could happen to two to five people per every 1 million vaccinated.
The researchers, however, dispelled the common assumption that PEG might be causing these allergic reactions as they are present in very small quantities in the vaccines.
