About This Course

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) poses a significant healthcare challenge, often leading to hospitalization due to its severity. Despite its typically straightforward diagnosis and treatment, recent UK data highlight a surprisingly high mortality rate associated with CAP. To enhance outcomes, there's growing interest in utilizing biomarkers for better risk assessment and personalized management, along with exploring the therapeutic potential of modulating CAP-induced inflammation.

This course aims to equip frontline healthcare personnel with a comprehensive understanding of CAP, encompassing its burden, microbiology, antibiotic therapy, adjunctive treatment, guideline recommendations, and newer antibiotic agents, all guided by the latest guidelines from esteemed faculty.

Objectives of the module

At the completion of this module, the participant will be able to:
  • Understand the burden of CAP on public health and healthcare systems.
  • Explore the microbiology of CAP, including common pathogens and their susceptibilities.
  • Learn about appropriate antibiotic therapy for CAP, considering factors like patient demographics and severity.
  • Gain knowledge about adjunctive treatments and their role in improving outcomes for CAP patients.
  • Familiarize with guideline recommendations from major medical societies, ensuring evidence-based management of CAP.
  • Stay updated on newer antibiotic agents and their potential use in CAP treatment.
