World Homeopathy Day: History, Importance and More

Homeopathy is a science of medicine that works on the concept that diseases can be cured by the body’s own healing process. Medicines in Homeopathy are made using dosages of natural ingredients. Homeopathy was first introduced to the world by German physician and chemist  Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. So to acknowledge Homeopathy and its impact on the world of medicine, the World Homeopathy Day is celebrated on April 10, on the birthday of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the father of homeopathy. This year on World Homeopathy Day 2020, the 265th birthday of Dr. Hahnemann will be celebrated.

The World Homeopathy Awareness Week is held every year from 10 April to 16 April, organized by the World Homeopathy Awareness Organization. Every year on World Homeopathy Day many public events such as free lectures and workshops, volunteer first-aid at events, free homeopathy clinic visits, media interviews, posts on social media are organized all around the world. The goal of these events is to consider the complexities of practicing homeopathy and plan future approaches. On this day awareness is spread about homeopathy as a form of medicine and prepares strategies to improve its rate of success.

In India, World Homeopathy Day has become a red-letter day for the practice of Homoeopathy as it is celebrated under the umbrella of AYUSH Ministry, Govt. Of India in New Delhi in the last few years. India represents one of the largest producers and traders of homeopathic drugs worldwide. Homeopathy in India is as popular as Ayurveda and is under the supervision of the Ministry of AYUSH.

This year on World Homeopathy Day 2020, an international conference was organized at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata, the main-center for Homeopathy. However, due to COVID-19, this conference is postponed. The theme for this year on World Homeopathy Day is “Enhancing the scope of Homeopathy in Public Health”
