Women are twice at risk of mortality from asthma attacks

Women with asthma have twice the risk of dying from an asthma attack as compared to men, according to a recent clinical review.  The findings come amid strong demands by health experts to look into the sex-related differences in asthma exacerbations. Asthma + Lung UK, a charity organization working in this field, which initiated the study, pointed out that many people were unaware that fluctuations in female sex hormones can cause asthma symptoms to flare up or even trigger life-threatening attacks. The organisation stressed on the importance of their findings and invited further research to explore potential triggers with their patients and create tailored adjustments to a patient’s medication regimen.
