Global Outbreak of Monkeypox Raises Concerns About Sexual Transmission

The monkeypox (MPX) virus, which was once only found in Africa, has lately expanded globally, with instances being documented in non-endemic areas. Typically, the virus spreads from animals to people or between humans by respiratory droplets or contact with infected sores. However, in the present epidemic, there has been an upsurge in incidence among men who have sex with men (MSM) and those with sexually transmitted illnesses (STDs), indicating a possible relationship between MPX and other STDs. This case report features an MSM patient who was infected with MPX, HIV, and syphilis despite having no travel history to an endemic location. MPX, an orthopoxvirus, was first identified in humans in 1970 and has caused intermittent epidemics in Africa since then. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the current worldwide epidemic a public health emergency.
