Air pollution biggest contributor to rising COPD cases in Delhi: Medical experts

With the rising pollution levels in Delhi, medical experts highlighted that air pollution is emerging as the biggest contributor to COPD. In the last 5 years, the country has witnessed a 20 percent increase in the proportion of non-smokers with COPD. This observation came from a recent research by Prof. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Director of Medical Education and Head of Pulmonary Medicine at Era’s Lucknow Medical College and Hospital. The researcher found that due to bad indoor and outdoor air quality, around 25 to 40 percent of non-smokers develop COPD. He also pointed out there is an alarming  increase in COPD patients every year during winters.
