Medication adherence in asthma, COPD patients is significantly higher with digital app engagement
Among adults with asthma or COPD using a digital health platform, greater smartphone app engagement is associated with higher absolute medication use. A study conducted by a team of researchers in the US assessed the relation between smartphone app engagement and medication adherence and found that using controller medications was highly associated with opening the app. The team said that they analysed data from 2309 participants (71% asthma; 29% COPD) and found that longer session durations were also associated with greater odds of using controller medications in asthma and COPD. The researchers expressed hopes that their research may help develop targeted digital health tools and interventions.
