
Omicron tally touches 1889 in India; Monday sees close to 34,000 new Covid-19 cases
With 176 new cases of Omicron variant infection of coronavirus disease in the last 24 hours, India’s total confirmed cases of the new ‘variant of concern’ has risen to 1,889. Maharashtra, which contributed at least 31 percent of these cases, has emerged the worst affected with 578 people tested positive so far. This is followed by Delhi, Kerala and Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, the country continued reporting a big spike in the number of new Covid-19 cases. On Monday, the single-day tally touched 33,750, pushing the country’s total active cases to 1,45,582. India, which started the inoculation drive against Covid-19 in the young aged between 15 and 18 years on Monday, administered about 41 lakh doses on the first day.
