1 in 6 RA patients develop interstitial lung disease
More than 15 percent of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) develop interstitial lung disease within 20 years, associated with shorter survival, according to data published in Arthritis Care & Research recently. According to the authors, patients with RA commonly experience fatigue and arthralgias; consequently, they are less active than healthy adults. As a result, studies have reported that a large proportion (up to 90%) of patients with radiologic evidence of RA-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD) do not report respiratory symptoms.
