GP assessment of asthma inadequate: Review

Recent review by a team of scientists from the Verona University Hospital and University of Messina, Italy, found that the analysis of asthma by general practitioners (GPs) to assess the severity level is largely incorrect. The researchers said that their primary aim was to understand how to obtain good asthma control using a specific digital platform, PneumoApp, for insertion of clinical data and flow volume (F-V) curves performed in asthmatic patients by GPs, and for the subsequent evaluation of these data by specialists. The researchers concluded that the effectiveness of a tele-counseling collaboration between hospital and territory in the management of asthma can be improved by greater diffusion of the use of Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) guidelines at a local level.
