Novel strategy involving exosomes to block chronic lung diseases

Scientists at Washington University School of Medicine have found new ways of preventing inflammatory respiratory diseases involving exosomes, the tiny compartments released from cells that carry different types of cargo, including inflammatory chemicals called cytokines that can drive lung diseases. The new strategy,  revealing new routes to potential treatments for chronic inflammatory conditions, found that such cytokines can drive inflammation in more ways than previously understood. It demonstrates how these inflammatory cytokines are packaged and can be blocked to prevent lung disease from developing in a mice model.
