Asthma risk high in children born to mothers work with cleaning products
Children whose mothers work with cleaning products have a significantly higher risk of developing asthma, revealed a recent study. The Norwegian study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, analysed data from 3,318 adult participants and their mothers who had been exposed to indoor cleaning agents for six months or longer even before conception to find that these children have a 71 percent increased risk of developing asthma, or other respiratory conditions such as wheeze. This could be due to chemical exposures affecting future parents’ somatic and germ cells, thus having an impact on the children’s health through germline cell exposure.
