COPD follow-up care for preventing readmissions and mortality risk
A recent study conducted by researchers from various hospitals and medical research centers of Spain observed that there is a compelling need to establish strategies that would ensure continuity of care after hospital admission in COPD. This will help prevent readmissions and death in a big way, observed this population-based control study, which indicated that the factors most closely associated with the re-admission profile was home oxygen therapy, male gender, a CHA2D-VASc scale score > 2, and severity by clinical risk group stratification. The researchers underlined the importance of their study as it asserts that certain individual and healthcare factors can predict hospitalisation of COPD patients due to respiratory causes, as well as re-admissions and mortality.
