Marking the beginning of the Covid-19 third wave in India, the country’s single-day spike in new infection cases has gone up to 58,097 on Tuesday from about 37,000 reported the previous day. There were 534 new deaths also reported in the 24 hours. After adjusting the 15,389 recoveries registered on Tuesday, the active cases in India currently stands at 2,14,004. The confirmed cases of Omicron variant driven infection have risen up to 2,135 in the last 24 hours ending 9 am on Wednesday.
