60% of women get heart-health advice at six-week postpartum visit – study
According to a new Northwestern Medicine study, despite having risk factors for heart disease, just 60% of women receive advice on maximizing their heart health during their six-week postpartum visit. The study, which looked at data from 2016 to 2020, discovered that around 90% of women in the United States had at least one postpartum visit during the “fourth trimester.” This visit is regarded as an excellent time for women to prioritize their own health because they are already in the doctor’s office discussing their well-being at a vital crossroads in life. The study does, however, highlight the low rates of heart-health counseling during these visits. The study stresses the relevance of lifestyle advice for women who have risk factors for heart disease or who have had pregnancy problems.
