A Catastrophic Outcome of Ineffectual Episiotomy Causing Acquired Vaginal Atresia: A Case Report
This case report highlights a rare and devastating outcome of an ineffective episiotomy procedure, resulting in acquired vaginal atresia. Episiotomy, a surgical incision made during childbirth to enlarge the vaginal opening, is commonly performed to facilitate delivery and prevent severe tears. However, in this particular case, the episiotomy procedure proved to be ineffective and led to severe complications. The patient experienced progressive scarring and closure of the vaginal canal, resulting in acquired vaginal atresia, a condition where the vagina becomes completely blocked. The report emphasizes the importance of proper surgical technique and close monitoring to avoid such catastrophic outcomes. Additionally, it underscores the need for comprehensive follow-up care and awareness among healthcare providers to promptly address any complications arising from episiotomy procedures.
