ABCC1 as potential therapy target in COPD, Asthma
A study by the Department of Translational Medicine at Rutgers University found that a protein called ABCC1 lets a specific signaling molecule leak out of muscle cells in the airways and it may contribute to the airway constriction that makes it harder for people with asthma or COPD to breathe. This protein has been recognized as important in some diseases, but it is the first time it has been defined in airway diseases like asthma and COPD. Therefore these findings could be potentially very important in improving the management of these diseases.
