New research finds adult tobacco smoke extremely dangerous for children

Exposure to adult cigarette smoking is extremely dangerous to children, says a newly published research.  The study,  conducted by a team of scientists from the  University of Cincinnati, Ohio, US, under Dr Ashley Merianos, found that children in this case are exposed to second and thirdhand smoke, which includes inhaling cigarette smoke from a lit tobacco product and the residue that remains in the environment well after the cigarette smoking has ceased. Importantly, the research team also found that smoke-exposed children had nearly twice the risk of being admitted to the hospital over a one-year period.  While stressing the need for additional smoke exposure intervention programs ensuring that adults who want to quit smoking are supported, Dr Merianos said that  only 7 out 100 people are finally able to quit the habit in the US.
