AI model for Crohn’s Disease diagnosis achieves 81% accuracy rate – study
The Sheba Medical Center in Israel has developed an AI model that can predict whether patients with Crohn’s Disease need biological therapy by achieving an 81% accuracy rate. Instead of relying on gastroenterologists to determine whether patients require biological therapy through a capsule endoscopy, which produces around 10,000 to 12,000 images for interpretation, the AI successfully scanned the film of 101 Crohn’s Disease patients in just a few minutes. In addition to being more accurate than gastroenterologists, the research found AI to be a highly effective diagnostic tool, producing an 86% accuracy rate in image and data analysis compared to 68% accuracy achieved with the reliance on analysis by an experienced gastroenterologist. This research highlights the potential impact of AI on personalized medicine and improved patient outcomes for Crohn’s Disease.
