Albendazole combination with moxidectin, ivermectin for treating Trichur
A study examined the effectiveness of albendazole alone vs. albendazole in combination with either moxidectin or ivermectin for treating Trichuris trichiura infection. A total of 255 people with mild to moderate T. trichiura infections were separated into three groups. The first group was given moxidectin and albendazole, the second ivermectin and albendazole, and the third albendazole alone. The cure rate, defined as the percentage of subjects who no longer had egg-positive T. trichiura following therapy, was the main outcome. Cure rates did not differ substantially between the moxidectin plus albendazole group and albendazole alone, nor between the ivermectin plus albendazole group and albendazole alone. In terms of egg reduction rates, moxidectin with albendazole resulted in a lesser decrease when compared to moxidectin alone.
