American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons promotes patient-reported outcome measures
The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons launched the PROMs in Practice campaign to promote the use of patient-reported outcome measures in orthopedic treatment. Patients are asked about their health state in terms of pain, mobility, well-being, and care experience in patient-reported outcome measures. CMS and insurers will soon demand these safeguards. The AAOS’s mission is to increase awareness and understanding of PROMs at the point of care, provide technology solutions, and lobby for better assistance. This will assist orthopedic doctors in improving patient communication, increasing patient engagement in treatment planning, and adapting to required changes. However, due to concerns like tool selection, data integration, and identifying use cases across subspecialties, there are still obstacles to making it straightforward for surgeons to adopt PROMs frequently.
