Mobile app to trace wildfire effect on asthma patients

Washington State University’s College of Nursing and technology company Urbanova have announced a collaboration to design U-track, a mobile application, to help mitigate and reduce health risks to young adults with asthma during wildfire events. The app attempts to implement additional features such as a spirometer-capture portion to Smoke Sense, which tracks wildfires in the US, to assess lung function by measuring airflow during inhalation and exhalation. Wildfire smoke contains carcinogens, but of particular concern is fine particulate matter known as PM 2.5, which can be inhaled deep into people’s lungs and can even enter their bloodstreams.
