Assessing the Quality of Life for Women with Pelvic Organ Prolapse in Ethiopia
This study examines the quality of life for women diagnosed with pelvic organ prolapse in Ethiopia, a topic that has not been previously reported on. Conducted in public referral hospitals in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples region, the study included 419 diagnosed women. A validated tool was used to collect data, which were then analyzed using statistical software. The results showed that 57.5% of the women had a poor quality of life, with personal relationships being highly affected and sleep/energy being the least affected domain. Factors associated with a poor quality of life included stage III/IV prolapse, menopause, being unmarried (widowed or divorced), and longer duration of prolapse. The findings highlight the significant impact of pelvic organ prolapse on women’s lives and call for further attention to this important public health issue.
