Diagnosing subtle CAD symptoms with comorbidities important: Study
A recently reported case study from India highlighted the issue of continued overlooking of the subtle symptoms of cold agglutinin disease (CAD), an autoimmune condition, particularly in patients with comorbidities, including COPD. Recognition of CAD symptoms is important for preventing future attacks, as they may be subtle in clinical presentation and missed initially if overlooked. A study, published in the Asian Journal of Transfusion Science, reported the case of a 54-year-old man who was delirious and brought to the hospital’s emergency room, and had a history of COPD and alcoholism. They added that the CAD diagnosis in his case proved to be incidental amid negative coomb’s test reports, but was important for preventing future heart failure.
