Car-IBS trial studies two different diets for treating IBS: low-fat, low-carbohydrate

The Car-IBS trial examined the effectiveness of two distinct restricted diets and optimum medicinal treatment in treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The experiment included 300 persons with IBS and discovered that both restrictive diets were more beneficial than medication treatment in decreasing IBS symptoms. The first was a low-FODMAP diet, which limits certain carbs, and the second was a low-carbohydrate diet. For a four-week intervention phase, patients in the diet groups were given goods and recipes. The low-FODMAP diet group was allowed to reintroduce foods depending on their preferences and past experience after the intervention. The researchers discovered that both diets resulted in a substantial reduction in IBS symptom severity, which lasted six months.
