Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Improves Left Ventricular Function in PICM
Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has been found to improve left ventricular function in patients with postinfarction cardiomyopathy (PICM), according to a study presented at the Heart Rhythm Society’s 2021 Scientific Sessions. The study involved 87 patients with PICM who were randomized to either receive CRT or standard medical therapy. The results showed that those who received CRT had significant improvements in left ventricular ejection fraction, left ventricular end-diastolic volume, and New York Heart Association functional class. Moreover, the study also found that patients who received CRT had a lower incidence of hospitalization and mortality compared to those who received standard medical therapy. The study suggests that CRT may be an effective treatment option for patients with PICM who have reduced left ventricular function.
