Multi-organ focused ultrasound fails to help reduce hospital stay and improve treatment outcome in cardiopulmonary patients

Despite the purpose of multi-organ focused-ultrasonography to improve the diagnostic fidelity and speed of clinical evaluation, it often fails to deliver better patient outcomes in cardiopulmonary cases. New research, published in JAMA Network Open, found that multi-organ focused-ultrasonography or focused clinical ultrasonography (FCU) for patients hospitalised with a cardiopulmonary diagnosis did not significantly impact their length of hospital stay. The researchers pointed out that among their patient cohort of 248 patients, the participants who underwent FCU had similar results as those who received standard care. At the same time, they acknowledged that there was a difference of 11.9 hours, though this difference had been insignificant in the mean hospital LOS between the multi-organ focused-ultrasonography group and the patients treated with the standard of care for cardiopulmonary conditions.
