
Case report on adolescent conversion disorder: The role of trauma in the diagnosis
Conversion disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis given when a patient has unexplained neurological symptoms after ruling out medical causes. A thorough biopsychosocial examination is needed to diagnose this condition. Conversion disorder can present in many different ways, so its evaluation and treatment should reflect this complexity. This case report describes an adolescent patient with conversion disorder, social anxiety, a mild traumatic brain injury, and psychological stress. The connection between conversion symptoms, dissociation, trauma, and memory is explored to understand the unique presentation and treatment needed for this patient.
