Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district worst affected by air pollution; 94% residents in health distress

A sample survey carried out in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, which reported the most industrial, fuel and construction related pollution, has found 94.2 percent of its residents severely affected by air pollution and undergoing extreme health distress. The survey carried out by a group of medical practitioners and environmentalists, also found that 75.1 percent people have attributed the cause of their ailments to high pollution, 60 percent citizens are irritated by high air and noise pollution leading to early exhaustion, sleeplessness, lack of focus and headaches. The surveyors also said that they interviewed 430 persons, of which 64 percent feel that their life span has decreased by some years due to pollution. Chandrapur, currently known as one of the most polluted districts in India, suffers from the worst industrial emissions, burning of fuels like petrol, diesel, gas, coal, rising number of vehicles, construction, transportation and burning of garbage.
