Experimental chewing gum could reduce viral load in saliva
A new experimental chewing gum, containing a protein that can trap virus particles, could reduce the amount of coronavirus particles in saliva and help slow transmission. According to a new research paper published in the journal Molecular Therapy, the chewing gum also limits the spread of virus-laden droplets when infected people are talking, breathing, or coughing.
“Chewing gum with virus-trapping proteins offers a general affordable strategy to protect patients from most oral virus re-infections through debulking or minimizing transmission to others,” the study authors wrote.
