Children’s Post-COVID-19 Conditions: A Study of the Long-Term Effects

The post-acute COVID-19 sequelae, sometimes referred to as extended COVID or post-COVID-19 disorders, are a rising source of concern. Long-lasting symptoms like exhaustion and shortness of breath can significantly lower one’s quality of life, even when surviving the illness is no longer the main obstacle. With the emergence of the Omicron variation, children have recently started suffering from increasingly severe sickness. In a study that was published in JAMA, researchers looked at the percentage of kids who acquired COVID-19 and reported post-COVID-19 conditions (PCC) 90 days after attending an ER. 8642 kids from eight different nations were enrolled in the research, of whom 1884 had COVID-19, had ED indexing data accessible, and had a 90-day follow-up completed. Fever, cough, and rhinorrhea or congestion were the most frequent symptoms noted during ED indexing. 5.8% of kids after 90 days.
