Climate change is raising risks for human health
Climate change is causing enormous changes throughout the planet, which has a variety of effects for human health. Deforestation, mining, agriculture, and urbanization are all contributing to unparalleled biodiversity loss. As a result, human-dependent animals’ numbers are dropping, resulting in new hotspots for zoonotic illnesses. Furthermore, climate change is relocating millions of people each year, putting further strain on already vulnerable systems. These settings foster the spread of both existing and novel illnesses. Animals are migrating to higher elevations to avoid rising temperatures, carrying illnesses with them and posing a hazard to those who live there. Warmer winters and longer active periods for disease carriers such as ticks and mosquitos are causing an increase in the number of disease carriers.
