Close links between income disparities and asthma risk
A recent comprehensive analysis which included neighbourhood-level data collected in San Diego found that the low income areas within the city suffer from more risk of asthma among other health conditions. Regarding asthma rates, which often rise near the industrial areas and freeways found in the areas, the rate in the zone of 75.32 cases per 10,000 people was more than double the city’s overall rate of 35.84 cases per 10,000 people. The researchers highlighted the importance of their findings and stressed on the need for public policy measures to improve the conditions of the residents living in the 10 neighbourhoods in southeastern San Diego.
