Study finds strong correlation between high NPAR and mortality risk in stroke patients

A strong correlation has been established between increased levels of the novel biomarker, neutrophil-to-albumin ratio (NPAR) and increased risk of mortality in stroke patients. A research evaluating NPAR as a prognostic tool for inflammation in relation to all-cause mortality for patients afflicted by strokes, conducted by a team of researchers from the Department of Neurology, Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, China, found that this ratio could be significantly associated with an increased risk in mortality among stroke patients. The team explained in their report, published in International Journal of General Medicine, that they had set out to analyse NPAR’s efficacy as a prognostic tool for inflammation in stroke patients and analysed the files of 940 patients for 30 days and found that higher NPAR still obtained significant predictive power for 30-day all-cause mortality even after proceeding adjustment for confounding factors.
