Covid patients experience asthma-like symptoms months later : US study

A large number of long Covid patients still suffer from myalgic encephalomyelitis, which causes breathing difficulties as in asthma patients along with prolonged tiredness and depression. A new study published in the JACC: Heart Failure journal found that many of these patients are suffering the symptoms even 15 months after infection and 88 percent of them exhibited breathing difficulties.

Professor Donna M Mancini, from Mount Sinai hospital in New York, who led the study, says that many of these patients reported shortness of breath. “They experienced several abnormalities including reduced exercise capacity, excessive ventilatory response and abnormal breathing patterns which would impact their normal daily life activities,” Dr Mancini said in the report.

Medical experts had already pointed out how several patients complained of reduced exercise capacity, excessive ventilatory response and abnormal breathing patterns months after recovering from Covid-19. The research team expressed hopes that their research could possibly bring medical practitioners to look deeply into the symptoms while treating long covid patients.
