Deprescription of montelukast in young asthmatics lacks evidence

A systematic review conducted by a team of researchers from University of Liverpool Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, and Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool, UK, found a lack of evidence regarding the stepping down of montelukast in children and young asthma patients. The study highlighted the need for definitive studies determining clinical stability and the impact of deprescribing montelukast, after analysing over 197 papers. The study pointed out that the currently available data are limited and largely contradictory on the effects of deprescribing montelukast in young patients.
