Daily e-cigarettes associated with greater chance of smoke discontinuation: Study

Sufficient nicotine dosing or optimal e-cigarettes design can help reduce cravings for smoking among people who have no plans for quitting smoke, finds an interesting study. According to a study conducted by Andrew Hyland and team from the Department of Health Behaviors at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, daily e-cigarette use was associated with greater odds at quitting smoking among smokers without an initial plan to stop. The study, published in JAMA Network Open, focussed on 1600 US adult cigarette addicts who were not trying to quit and who could not go one day without cigarettes. The team noted that 6.2 percent of participants reported discontinuing cigarette smoking in the immediate follow-up, followed by more numbers in subsequent follow-ups. The researchers highlighted the importance of their study as it suggests that daily vaping may give hope to this group of smokers to break out of this cycle and eventually become a former cigarette smoker.
