The European Respiratory Society (ERS), on the occasion of World Women’s Day, has called for greater awareness and focus on the increase in respiratory diseases in women. An advocacy statement from ERS pointed out the significant gender differences in COPD clinical expression resulting from environmental, behavioural, genetic and bio-physiological factors which in turn create differences in intensive care that may suggest the requirement of multidirectional understanding of gender on such outcomes.
