Delhi doctors successfully reverse 1st case of bone tissue death

In a first of its kind clinical case, doctors at Delhi’s Moolchand Medcity hospital successfully reversed early-stage Avascular Necrosis by Oral Rivaroxaban in a 56-year-old female. The patient, a known case of hypertension, Type-2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia and obesity, was presented with pain in the left hip joint and groin off and on for one month duration both at rest and aggravated by walking. Conducted under the supervision of Dr H K Chopra and Dr Sundeep Malla, the treatment of nontraumatic osteonecrosis remains one of the most challenging subjects in orthopaedics.

Avascular Necrosis (AVN) is a disease entity associated with numerous factors causing direct damage to the vasculature of the bone and direct injury to the bone or bone marrow which ultimately leads to mechanical failure of the bone. Various pharmacologic agents have been tried to prevent the progression of osteonecrosis without successful documentation by imaging.
