Functional neurological disorder can coexist with other neurological illnesses – case report
Functional neurological disorder (FND) has symptoms that are similar to those of other neurological illnesses and can coexist with them. It might be difficult to separate symptoms produced by FND from those caused by the underlying illness when FND overlaps with another disorder, especially when there are no obvious indicators of FND. The case report covers a guy who was genetically diagnosed with paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia (PKD), but the majority of his symptoms were misdiagnosed as FND. To the best of the authors knowledge, there have been no previous reports of FND overlapping with PKD. This instance demonstrates how FND symptoms can overlap with and mirror those of other disorders. It is critical to screen out FND symptoms that might alter clinical aspects that cannot be explained purely by a virus.
