Gastrointestinal Tuberculosis and Crohn’s disease: Diagnostic criteria
Gastrointestinal Tuberculosis (GITB) and Crohn’s disease (CD) are chronic granulomatous illnesses that predominantly affect the terminal ileum. While GITB is more common in underdeveloped countries and CD in affluent countries, the epidemiology of both disorders has altered. It is critical to distinguish between GITB and CD since their administration vary greatly. GITB is diagnosed using clinical, endoscopic, imaging, and histological data, whereas CD lacks a clear diagnostic test and necessitates a multiparametric approach. To measure response in GITB, early mucosal response to anti-tubercular treatment (ATT) is employed. Due to overlapping symptoms, radiological features, and histology, distinguishing between GITB and CD is difficult. CD is a kind of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterized by persistent inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract.
