
Germany reports first Omicron-linked Covid death
Germany’s Robert Koch Institute for infectious disease confirmed the country’s first death due to the Omicron variant of the coronavirus on Thursday. The victim was between the age of 60 and 79, the institute said. The country, which reported 810 new Omicron cases in the last 24 hours, recorded its total number of cases of this more contagious variant so far at 3,198. Meanwhile, German health minister Karl Lauterbach has warned the public about a large wave of infections in the country.
