New Zealand ESR study finds harmful ingredients in 150 vaping products

A study conducted by The Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) in New Zealand analysed 150 vaping products and found that it contained harmful bacteria, substances and chemicals. The study found almost all these products contained ethanol, and more than half had at least 10 percent more or less nicotine than indicated on packaging. One product even contained bacteria which is usually found in the mouth.

Highlighting the issue of misinformation by the manufacturers, Jared Doncliff, a pharmaceutical programme team leader at IESR said that; “All these vaping products are marketed in such a way as to suggest these products are healthy.”

Medical experts and practitioners have raised concern at the continued marketing of vaping as a healthier alternative to smoking and pointed out the need for some regulations regarding their sale.
