India Omicron tally at 38; Kerala, AP and Chandigarh reports their first case

With Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Chandigarh reporting their first case of Omicron variant infection of Covid-19, India’s Omicron case tally rose to 38 on Sunday. Maharashtra and Karnataka, where there were cases detected earlier, also recorded one each of this rapidly spreading virus infection yesterday. Most of the cases in these states were detected among people who arrived from foreign countries. According to the latest available data, Maharashtra has the highest number of Omicron cases at 18 followed by Rajasthan (9), Karnataka (3), Gujarat (3), Delhi (2) and one each in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Chandigarh. The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday that the Omicron coronavirus strain has been so far found in 63 countries and seemed to be spreading faster than the Delta variant.
