India reports 453 Covid-linked deaths on Tuesday; Omicron tally crosses 200

India reported 453 new Covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the total death count to 4,78,007 until now. The number of fatalities on Tuesday is significantly up from the previous day’s spike of 132 deaths. According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry, India registered 5,326 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. With this, the country’s total caseload reached 3,47,52,164. The active case tally in the country currently stands at 79,097.  

As the country reported its first case of local transmission of Omicron variant in Telangana and at least 40 more cases reported in other states and union territories, including three cases of people who had come in from not-at-risk countries in the past 24 hours, India’s Omicron variant infection numbers have risen to more than 200 as on Tuesday.
