Amid the emergence and spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, India’s Prime Minister will hold a meeting to review the pandemic situation in the country on Thursday. India has reported over 200 cases of Omicron, a ‘variant of concern’ which was first detected in South Africa in November and spread across the world, including India, within a few weeks. India, which reported 5,326 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, continued reporting a high number of Covid-related deaths in the last one month.
