Health Ministry drops ivermectin, HCQ from its latest COVID-19 guidelines
The Union Ministry of Health and family welfare, which updated its updated guidelines for Covid management amid rising infections, has dropped ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine from the treatment protocol. The new guidelines, developed by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), have specified the droppage of these drugs. However, the updated guidelines still recommend the use of ramdesivir and tocilizumab in patients with moderate to severe infection. The guidelines also specified self-isolation and physical distancing with regular temperature and oxygen-level checks for mild infections. At the same time, the guidelines specify oxygen support and therapy only if the patients’ respiratory rate is more than 24/min and SpO2 level 90-93 percent on room air.
