Long COVID May Have Consequences for Brain Structure and Function
According to a recent study published in the journal Lancet Regional Health – Europe, COVID-19 patients who experience long-term symptoms may also have consequences for brain structure and function. The study, which involved 782 participants, found that those with long COVID had smaller gray matter volume and reduced functional connectivity in areas of the brain responsible for memory, spatial awareness, and information processing compared to those who had recovered from COVID-19. The findings suggest that long COVID may have a significant impact on cognitive abilities and mental health. While the study’s authors acknowledge that more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between long COVID and brain structure and function, they believe these findings are a cause for concern.
